About Eco Soul Art &
Lois Reed

“Art takes what is hidden in the Soul and gives it Form.

Our art is how we embody our Soul’s journey in this world.

Do it for the joy it creates! Do it for the healing it brings.

Render the invisible visible..”

The Art

Officially, I studied art at The School of Visual Arts in NYC. But, art is also in my DNA. I began my real art studies my mother’s knee.

Growing up I learned as we sketched & painted everywhere we journeyed. Some of my fondest memories are of us picnicking and drawing the plants growing by the streams.

… she taught me to see the purples in a winter field.

My lineage is filled with female artists.

My great-grandmother was an artist but was expected to give all of that creative expression up to raise her family.

When my grandmother had the chance to go to Cooper Union (in those days it was the R.I.S.D. of art schools), her brushes were broken by her mother & she was told to learn to cook and to sew.

My mother attended art school & was offered a position as top-artist for Hallmark upon graduating. Oddly, she turned that down to become a wife & mother. Even though her love for my father took precedance over a career, I watched her create my entire life, and often felt her restless spirit.

It is my hope, my intention, to break the cycle of tossed talent & unrealized dreams. While we watch the world tilt, and see times without choices lurking in the shadows, I will rise!

I want to share the magick with you.

The Nature

I dream of bringing Humanity back to Humans through nature immersion and intuitive art.

I have lead nature & art classes, ecotours, and workshops for the better part of my life.

I have guided people via kayak and/or SUP (paddle-board) through the mangrove forests of Florida. I have guided backpacking and wilderness survival courses in the Appalachian Mountains & the Teton Mountains.

I have been an Earth Lover and activist since I was 8 years old, when I was hauled to the police station for blocking a bulldozer that was trying to clear the trees to make way for a mall.

I have marched in Earth marches, written and talked to politicians and reporters … all the while watching the forests stripped.

I see people, oceans, forests, all life on Earth suffering. Everywhere I go I see  people disconnecting – glued to their phones at the ocean, in the forest, on the street, at the dinner table, everywhere. How does one  care when we don’t even look at the sky anymore?

Then it hit me in the market one day. I was looking for something and noticed that Tampax, which had ALWAYS been cardboard, was now plastic. Right now, in the midst of our “war on plastics”.

 I heard 2 things standing there in the isle;

1. “That which you resist, persists”

2. Mother Teresa’s quote:
“I will go on a ‘Pro-Peace’ march, but I will never go on an ‘Anti-War’ march”

I stood there and heard the voice of the Divine, that may sound crazy but it is true. It spoke to me about my passions and my talents, that these were given to me to use for Healing. That this approach would be far more effective than any protest, bulldozer blocking or screaming of my opinions.

It is said that education is the way to change; not blaming or yelling, but teaching and experience. I have seen this to be true on my eco-tours and my leading of back-country expeditions. The changes I see in people is extraordinary.  They  begin to understand their strengths, begin to discover a sense of purpose to guide them, and to build the skills and confidence needed to thrive.

“We had such a great time on our Eco Kayak Tour with Lois.

She is a passionate naturalist and told us so much great information regarding the environment and the wildlife.

She was a joy to kayak with. We even assisted with a pelican rescue and enjoyed every minute of it. Kudos to Lois!”

Bill & Mary Hansen

As Black Elk said, “The first peace, which is the most important, is that which comes within the Souls of people when they realize their relationship, their oneness with the universe and all its powers, and when they realize at the center of the universe dwells the Great Spirit, and that its center is really everywhere, it is within each of us. ”

We are all Earth. We are part of a consciousness that lives in the rocks & the birds, the trees & the stars … we only need to see with new eyes & touch with pure hearts.

Art gives us connection, healing, and peace.
Nature gives us connection, healing, and peace.

I am an artist born of an artist who was born of an artist …

There is a transcendent experience when creating.

Creating brings a person  to their core.

We touch our Soul when creating.
