2025, Living Inside a Scream

2025, Living Inside a Scream

It is the Eve of Christmas in America, 2025 … and I feel as if I were living inside a scream. How do we celebrate during a takeover of all that we hold dear?

I read “On Tragedy and Suffering” this morning in “Simple Truths” by Kent Nerburn which brought this painting to mind, one that I had painted over the summer of this dystopian time that we find ourselves in.

“Tragedy and suffering will come to you. You cannot insulate yourself from them. You cannot avoid them. They come in their own season and in their own time. When they come, they will immobilize you.

When all is going well, our world is a small controlled experience bounded by our daily rituals and activities. When tragedy and suffering come swooping in, they shatter our tiny boundaries and break our world into pieces.

For a time we are living inside a scream where there seems to be no exit, only echoes.

…When we finally reclaim ourselves, as we ultimately do, we are changed.

…The question you must ask yourself is not if you will heal, but how.

Grief and pain have their own duration, and when they begin to pass, you must take care to guide the shape of the new being you are to become.

So you should not fear tragedy and suffering. Like love, they make you more a part of the human family. From them can come your greatest creativity.

They are the fire that burns you pure.”

Hunab Ku

Hunab Ku

hunab ku
The symbol is called “the Galactic Butterfly”
which is said to represent all of
the consciousness that has ever existed
in this galaxy.

This is all of our physical ancestors,
human, animal, reptile, fish, shell fish, plants as well
as the consciousness which organized all of the raw material from a whirling disk into stars, planets and solar systems.

Big Meaning. So big that the original Maya had no symbol for this. In their civilization it was like
having no name for God. Just knowing the concept was good enough. Later this pattern
was devised by Toltec or Zapatec weavers as a pattern for blankets and this is where Jose Arguelles
came across it.

He called it Hunab Ku. The indigenous peoples call it “The Galactic Butterfly”. Butterflies are seen
as ancestors returning for a visit to physicality. Wearing one of these symbols is very powerful as it broadcasts your reaching to actively join the consciousness of our galaxy.
